I've personally had this happen with vb4-32 but not THAT many times with vb5. So what files do you have in Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\ ? I had a very slow machine yesterday and was systematically disabling windows services to try to isolate the problem and found that VB no longer started with that error message. Worked for me. -LZ . But if I had to guess, it sounds like you're target system has some incompatible dll's on it.
